Does Proactive Work?
Does Proactive really work? I'm 20 and I still have acne and nothing else including medicine has worked for me so I'm getting desperate. However before I shell out the 50 bucks I want to see if it really is this "miracle" cure everyone is talking about. And does anyone have any other ideas for getting rid of acne?

Proactive is really not that great. If you have sensitive skin (as I do) it really irritates it and makes it very red.
There is only ONE exception I make for this. There is one facial cleanser from that set that I like that reduces the redness of my face if I use it to wash my face in a morning shower (that's when it works best for me). But then again, I got my set of cleansers BEFORE the new Proactiv came out.
If he just washes his face regularly and eats good foods, it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

im an 18 year old female with oily/acne prone skin and i have been using proactive for nearly 2 years now and it works amazingly for me :)

I personally have never used proactive. But, my friend tried it about a year ago, although her acne was not that bad to begin with it got way worse after the first night she used it. She basically looked like she had a horrible sunburn because blotches of her face were flaking, peeling, and bright red. I felt so bad for her because she had to show up at school like that. I have not personally tried it but i use dermalogica. It works great for me. I think proactive works differently for different people and it may work for some people but not others. I would definitely recommend dermalogica!

Proactive is extremely drying to the skin and made to dry up excess oil that contributes to acne. No, he should not be applying this to his skin now before he needs it. It wouldn't hurt to keep it on hand and when and if he begins to show signs of blemishes, apply it.

does proactive work? No, it does work but the major problem is that it contains bleach....meaning that when your acne is gone, you're going to have little white spots on your face. if you want to use something like Proactive, there's an identical one called Pure Perfection. it's the Canadian version of proactive, except that it contains no bleach. maybe somehow order it online and have it shipped to your house from Canada if that's possible. i used it and i saw results within the first 2 weeks or so. :)

my cousin got proactive, and after a year of using it her skin was full of craters...(I dont know if she was picking at her zits or not) but it sure did not have postive results....
I would NOT recommend proactive at all.
Plus I heard all the chemicals in there are super bad for your skin.

does proactive work? no... Well Proactive works differently for all kinds of skin types. For me it made my acne worse. In like the 3rd day of using it when i woke up my face was full of acne in places I had never even had acne before. Luckily i was able to get rid of it but it took a long time. Since then i haven't used proactive because it caused a lot more acne instead of getting rid of it. This also happened to my cousin and for my friends it just doesn't work. Proactive also causes your skin to get really dry. You can try it but it may not work
Does Proactive Work For Blackheads
Proactiv Solution promises to prevent acne and blackheads and give you clear skin. Proactiv Solution claims their system is an overall skin treatment that is more effective in combating acne than the spot pimple treatments you will find over the counter in stores. The basic kit contains 3 items: Renewing Cleanser which thoroughly scrubs your face of any impurities and dead skin; Revitalizing Toner which rejuvenates your skin cells; and Repairing Lotion which prevents future outbreaks and heals current pimples and blackheads. The pharmaceutical-grade benzoyl peroxide used by Proactiv Solution is supposed to be gentler on your skin than other acne products that use higher amounts of benzoyl peroxide.
Does Proactive Work of Ingredients

Benzoyl Peroxide is a coal tar derivative and is easily absorbed into the skin where the bacteria and sebum are. Without boring you with details, it releases oxygen which kills the bacteria because the bacteria can't live in oxygen. So in this case, it has anti-bacterial properties which can start within 2 hours and last for 2 days. It also decreases swelling of the glands that make sebum and thus limits pimple size.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid helps with skin turnover and renewal. In concentrations from 0.5-5%, it decreases swelling of sebum glands and makes it easier for other products to cross the skin. It is less effective than benzoyl peroxide and both are present in Proactiv.
Sulfur
Mildly Antibacterial, helps with skin turnover and renewal. Mentioned in more detail when I talk about my own experience with Proactiv.
